99.9% of PowerPoint presentations present 50% or less of the intended information on the slides. The presentations are designed for a presenter/teacher to share half or more of the information
verbally. In some cases this can lead to presentations that are really just a standard lecture with a little extra visual support. To help presenters focus more on presenting information visually
and to learn advanced animation techniques we encourage presenters to use a “Tell a Story Slide”.
A Tell a Story Slide can be used to:
Share content
Reinforce content
Provide a “humor” break
Review content at the end (of section or entire presentation)
Tell a Story Slide
Use the Slide Show > Custom Animation tool to have 2+ images “talk” and present content automatically.
Directions:
Place two images on a slide. Use the “Blank” layout from (2000/2003) “Format > Slide Layout” or (2007/2010) “Home > Layout”.
Use (2000/2003) “Auto-Shapes > Callouts” or (2007/2010) “Insert > Shapes > Callouts” to create the “cartoon bubbles” for the dialogue.
Access (2000/2003) Slide Show > Custom Animation or (2007) Animations > Custom Animation or (2010) Animations > use ribbon and assign the Entrance Effect of "Appear".
Place them in the right order
use the animation’s “dropdown > Start After Previous"
use the animation’s “dropdown > Timings > Delay Timing” of 2 (for the first) and 5ish (for the rest) seconds for all animated callouts.
On the “dropdown > Effect Options” choice on all callouts change the After Animation item from "Don't Dim" to “Hide on Next Mouse Click” to remove the callout when another character’s bubble comes in.
Note: You can easily have up to a dozen callouts on one single slide. But, break up long conversations over several slides to make it easier to keep track of the conversation. On the second+ slides do not animate the characters (images).
